Good morning Sarah, SPSY 510 (psy of exceptional children) goes into the 13 categories of disabilities in which students may be placed for special education. It's a lot of work, but it is a 8 week class. We meet Tuesdays from 5pm to 10pm. For the most part, two students present a chapter (yesterday I had a presentation on speech and language impairment and another lady talked about autism).

On the contrary, I consider myself someone who enjoys encouraging students in a variety of tasks, projects, and opportunities to show what they really know through art and festivals. Nowadays most of the schools have implemented inclusion programs for students with physical and neurological disabilities. Unfortunately there is too little what this program does about the English language for these students so I have had to illustrate my path by myself.
The first observation was conducted on August 30th at 9:00 a.m., while the student was participating in the special education resource room. The observation took place for a total of 25 minutes. For the duration of the observation the student was seated at a small table working one-on-one with the special education teacher. Along with the student being observed and the special education teacher, two other students, as well as, two paraprofessionals were in the special education resource room during the observation time. One student and paraprofessional were working one-on-one at a small table, while the other student was sitting in a bean bag chair reading a book.
Then how can they do their work by themselves?” Well, if the student has a disability, then it is the teacher’s responsibility to give the student work that is right for them. Then, it is the student’s job to do the work that is being asked. Have you ever heard of an IEP education? Well, if the teacher does a bad job teaching, then it is the student’s responsibility to go to study with another teacher.
Conclusion In conclusion, after determining my own philosophy of special education I am better equipped to meet the needs of students with disabilities. Informed by this course, laws related to special education, and own beliefs, I have created an ideal classroom plan. I am also more aware of comfort level and fears in regard to special education.
Every day, two students come from special education classroom with the teacher assistant and spend 45 minutes. They come in the reading time. They have a separate table in the front of the classroom. The general education teacher uses the same curriculum that special education teacher uses an (All-Star Programme) for both students with special need and the other students. So, when the students with special needs came to the class.
Henry Ford once said, “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress. Working together is success” (Brainy Quote). From here, the concept of inclusive education, including students with and without learning disabilities as peers in the same classroom, originated. The aim of this type of education is to get students with learning disabilities involved in the society. Teachers and fellow students will also provide help for students with disabilities; in this way, students with learning disabilities will be motivated to study as they feel that they are a part of a group instead of being isolated in special places.
Fostering a tolerant, inclusive and friendly environment for special needs children by creating activities which will bring them closer to the community they live in. The activities to which they will participate outside school such as visits at museums or other activities will make children visible in the community and contribute to a better understanding in society of disability and the role of community in integrating them in their daily life.
Teachers may profit from having a varied population of students as teachers get a chance to improve their teaching skills and ability to distinguish lessons and activities when such different children are in their class. Regular teachers need to work closely with other teachers and specialists to meet the needs of diverse children, thus enhancing their collaboration skills. It also allows to develop an awareness and appreciation of students’ individual difference (National Center on Inclusive Education 2001). Besides, children with disabilities can motivate regular teachers to be more imaginative with their teaching methods, skills and come up with up-to-date methods of delivering lesson that fits all learners. Regular teachers may realize that all pupils have potencies, which can be useful and vital to their entire classroom, and these potencies can be fostered to produce a profound school experience (Kinza 2008).
During this time, they primarily worked on worksheets designed for the special education classroom as well as working on achieving their goals for accelerated reading. There were a few students who came in for an hour with work from their general education classroom and needed extra help completing their work. There were two students who had more severe disabilities, but they worked with paraprofessionals and did not do the same work as the rest of the class. One method of adjusting the work to meet the needs of the students that I noticed being used a lot in the classrooms I observed was cutting down the amount of work that they had to do. I
Values are principles that people hold important to them in life. As I gotten older my values have changed based on my experience, knowledge, and goals. Since I am in college and the field of social work forced me to open my eyes to different things and ideas I would 've never thought of. Five values that are important to me while I am on this journey of becoming a social worker is my education, positive energy, not judging people based on their past, a reflect and meditate on my life, and be a generous to other.
Assistive devices would provide support for students who need special needs in curriculum. Assistive technology helped children with physical difficulties to enhance school participation However, assistive technology in schools lack because there is not a supportive educational system. Hemmingston say, “Assistive technology has not been integrated into children’s daily lives in because they do not have inequity funding and failure to provide training” (464).Disabled students faced discrimination in public schools because they did not fit in social norms. This caused for students to face discrimination because they were judged based on obtaining assistive devices. Also, how teachers were not patient towards educating disabled children.
In regular education classrooms the majority of the time students receive whole-group instructions. Their methods of instructions consist in lectures, discussions, case studies, writing, group projects, public reviews, and independent student projects. In contrast, different instructional techniques are used for some students with special educational needs. Instructional strategies are classified as being either accommodations or modifications. An accommodation is a reasonable adjustment to teaching practices so that the student learns the same material, but in a format that is more accessible to the student.
Values in education In any company, there are certain rules and regulations that can be followed and allow the company to function effectively. Companies are identified by their values and among those values, respect plays the major role. The ministry of education in Namibia has 6 core values which are respect and empathy, professionalism, accountability, integrity, teamwork and commitment, the strategic plan (2017). The values were implemented as the best values of accessible and equitable quality education in all institution, linking to the goals enunciated under vision 2030 and will promote moral values in schools.
