Plagiarizing is "to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own : use (another's production) without crediting the source"(Websters). Viewing the definition of plagiarism and looking at the two speeches, it is very obvious where the plagiarism occurs. One use of plagiarism was find-replace, changing the key words yet seem to retaining the essential content of the source (Conroe). Trump had more similarities than not. There were many statements made in Trump's speech that were almost identical to Obama's, except for a few minor words that were replaced. The second type of plagiarism used is recycling; someone borrows generously from a previous work without giving credit. (Conroe) Trump did not give any credit to Obama after borrowing quotes from her 2008 convention speech. Having two or more types of plagiarism in one short speaking should give the ultimatum. The video highlighted the portions of Melania's speech that were recovered from Michelle's 2008 speech. For example, Trump said, "you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond, and you do what you say"(Conroe). That is the exact same that Michelle Obama said eight years ago. (Wilkie) A few sentences later, she said, "We want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dream and your willingness to work for it" (Wilkie). Obama said, “You work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect" (Wilkie).
