Chapter four talks about Planning For Success. In this chapter, the book guides us through goal setting and personal organization. “Career success is dependent on knowing what you want to achieve, managing your personal affairs, and committing yourself to lifelong learning (105).” After reading this chapter you will know everything about goal-setting and S.M.A.R.T goals. It stands for Specific, Measurable, Action-Oriented, Realistic and Timely. The book states that “Defining your goals with these five criteria in mind will keep you focused and on track (108).” It is easy to use the S.M.A.R.T goals to keep your life on track and to make sure your life doesn’t become a mess. In this chapter, you will also learn about personal organization. It is important to budget your money, organize time and reduce job-related stress. The book says that “Most young professionals underestimate the importance of creating a budget, treating time as a valuable resource, and managing job-related stress. Those who do prepare for these challenges in advance, however, report having a much easier time making the transition from school to career (113).” People who go from school to career don’t understand how important all of these things are. You need to watch how much money you earn, make sure you spend less money than what you earn and save the money you don’t spend. Instead of keeping the money you don’t spend in your wallet or on a debit card, you should put it in the bank. Not being able to have the money on you and being able to see it will help you save and not make it so tempting to spend it. Not only do you have to worry and focus on money, you also have to make sure you're organized especially when it comes to bills.
