The Allegory of the Cave describes a series of events in the form of an extended metaphor. Education and the effects on one’s life is commonly displayed throughout the book. Plato describes the series of events with an analogy between vision and education. Plato was an eminent figure in the realm of philosophy: also fabricating the 1st university in western history. Plato’s philosophy was that people see the world as a duplicate and not reality. Rulers replete with philosophy and education is the key to society. In Plato’s book , he metaphorically describes how prisoners are chained under a cave. They were always looking forward and are chained to where they can not look behind them. This gave them the privilege to see what was causing the shadows. The prisoners were filled with confusion, and finally understand what was causing the shadows to form. This portion of the book describes how the prisoners moved from imagination based ideology to reality. They moved from visualising the shadows to knowing what was causing the shadows. This shows the shift from imagination to reality. After the prisoners were unchained, they were then dragged out of the cave. Plato describes how they were adjusting to to light and envisioning the actually world beyonfd the cave. THe prisoners then realized that the statues were only replicas of the objects above the cave. THis shows the prisoners actually understanding what life was really about rather than shadows or statues. The prisoner then looked up into the sky , and saw how powerful the sun was. The sun was the main reason why life exists. The prisoner then begins to understnand what life is really about rather than just shadows statues and real objects.
