The Plebeians had a great importance to the republic of Rome. They were the vast majority and constituted an important portion of the roman society. They were the working force in the roman republic and therefore ensured growth of the economy through the various jobs and activities they engaged in such as trade, commerce, farming or building. They also paid their taxes which contributed to the republic’s economy. They were the mass consumers of the Roman society.
