Misguided Thoughts There are many different ways to end a story by including the way the plot is driven from one direction to the other while keeping the suspense in motion. The writer often surprises the reader with something completely different than what was expected from the reader to believe about what was going to happen next in the storyline. A twist can be manipulated in the story to prevent any obvious predictions in the plot. The use of a plot twist can come in different ways, such as revealing a little bit of the character traits, while other times the twist can be subtle by altering the beliefs of the reader through misconception towards the ending of the story. Just like in the story of “Sweat” by Zora Hurston and the film “Dolores Claiborne” by Stephen King demonstrated how the reader can be fooled …show more content…
When the reader finds themselves captivated in a story they began to predict what will happen next the further they read while the new information unravels in the midst of storyline. In the short story “Sweat” by Zora Hurston, the reader is introduced to the main protagonist, Delia a hardworking African American women who suffers tremendously by her lazy, abusive husband Sykes. In the beginning of the story, it shows that Delia is the only one who is working in the household by washing white peoples clothing for a living while her husband Sykes is sleeping around with his mistress Bertha. While Delia does seem to have heartbreaking moments she is not easily broken down even though her husband is giving her a life of hell. The reader can conclude already that the main theme of this story deals with good versus evil. At the end, it proves that good always overpower evil just in the way Delia had enough of her life of living in misery she decided let her husband die from that venomous snake bite. Before it came to the ending of the story
