The New World (2005) In contrast to Disney’s version of Pocahontas, director Terrence Malick’s The New World tells the story of Pocahontas and John Smith in a somewhat fictional form, yet also in a much more historically accurate account. The Native Americans in this film are shown as more peaceful and curious, attacking only when threatened, which eventually they do come under by the English. Even John Smith (played by Colin Farrel) says that they’re friendly, peace loving people and not savage. Like its Disney counterpart, it also featured Native American actors in the appropriate roles, including Q’orianka Kilcher (Pocahontas), August Schellenberg (Powhatan) and Wes Studi (Opechancanough).
