I think this was a masterpiece because they used a lot of poetic devices. The poem is call The Highwayman. It was written by Alfred Noyes. It was about how a robber really likes the landlord’s daughter and she really likes him. They used devices like metaphors, similes, and lots of imagery. This poem uses many examples of each poetic device. One example of the many poetic devices used in this poem are similes. Similes are when you compare two completely different things using the words like or as. The author uses it when he the poem says that she has hair like moldy hay. Imagery is when you can really see what the author is saying, you can picture it in you head. He uses a bunch of imagery to help the reader know exactly what he wanted to say. One more example of imagery in the poem was when he wrote, they shot him down on the highway down like a dog on the highway. He talks about the horse and the highwayman going down the road a lot which you can really see and understand. He also uses it when he is talking about the daughter about to kill herself. The poem had even more than this, but there are too many to list. Another poetic device that I will list is metaphors. Metaphors are when you compare two completely different things without using like or as. One metaphor in the poem was when he said the road was a gypsy's ribbon which means it was a long and windy road that never ends. Another metaphor in the poem was the moon was a ghostly Galleon. One more was when he said the wind was a torrent of
