After reading this poem over and over again, I feel that the voice in this piece of work is a women crying out for help. The reason that I say that is because the women is talking about how she feels dehumanized. She feels as if she is a robot and nothing but different office supplies. So for me the voice is someone who needs help to find their inner worth. (Kirszner & Mandell, 2012) The language that is used in this poem is imagery. The reason I say this is because the writer is talking about the women way she sees herself. With the imagery language it’s a way of talking about our five senses but mostly the sense of sight. So with that I feel that the best language for this poem would have to be imagery. (Kirszner & Mandell, 2012) When you read a poem you can sometimes see symbols that the writer may use. In this poem there is more than one that the writer uses and that you can spot in the writing with no trouble. The first one that I noticed is how the women describe herself as nothing but different offices supplies. For me this shows me how much the women thinks that she is worth and how important she is. It also points out to me how women in the late 60s and early 70s would lose themselves in their work and how they felt dehumanized. For example well the two men are walking through the catacombs one points out the spider web and talks about how beautiful it is and how it is constructed. That spider web is a symbol of the lies that one man has said about another. It is like the web of lies and tales. You build a web of lies like a spider builds a web to live in.
