He quickly becomes one of the greediest and most thoughtless people in the play after he chooses money over somebody's life. When Romeo gets word that Juliet is dead, he quickly heads over to the Apothecary’s shop, looking for a poison to kill himself. The Apothecary realizes that Romeo intends to commit suicide and hesitates about giving the poison to Romeo by saying, “Such mortal drugs I have; but Mantua's law is death to any he that utters them” (5.1.68-69). Romeo notices the Apothecary's delay and immediately offers the apothecary a large sum of money and says, "I pay thy poverty, but not thy will" (5.1.80). Without a second thought, The Apothecary takes the money and informs Romeo about how to use the poison.
Romeo receives the poison so he can drink it and kill himself once he arrives at Juliet's grave. Here we see a loss of innocence since Romeo not only committed the crime of buying poison. He also decided that the poison would be used for his demise since

In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses the love shared between Romeo and Juliet to show how moving love is and how deeply it can affect us. The strong affection Romeo and Juliet have for one another was ultimately their undoing. When Romeo heard news of Juliet’s death, Romeo rushed to the apothecary and asked him, “Let me have A dram of poison... That the life-weary taker may fall dead.” (V. i.63-65).
One example of when poison is used as a symbol is when the apothecary says. “Put this in any liquid thing you will and drink it off” (Apothecary 5.2.863) What this symbolizes is the apothecary telling romeo that the poison is very strong and Romeo is very desperate to kill himself because he is drinking poison which will most likely kill you and he is desperate to die beside juliet. So in this line poison is something that Romeo thinks is a good thing or a better outcome but in the long run it ends up being the wrong thing to do.
He sells the poison to Romeo because he is poor. He traded money for himself, for the poison to a child. “My poverty, but not my will, consents.” This shows the apothecary knowing he did something wrong, but not caring enough to stop himself. We see him not have any regret for his actions when he says “Put this in any liquid thing you will, And drink it off; and if you had the strength…”(5,1,80).
After Romeo had received the news of his darling Juliet’s passing, he became deranged. He decided to purchase a bowl of poison that would take his own life. As he walked upon Juliet’s casket, he decided to drink the poison without any hesitation. As his vision went blurry and his breathing started to slow he noticed Juliet awaken. However it was too late.
Drinking. O true apothecary,/Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die./He dies. ”(Shakespeare.5.3.119-120). As we read in the play we can see that Romeo purposely drank the poison he got knowing he would die.
There's a common saying that claims, "love is a drug". The saying means that love is addicting, and it makes people do things that they wouldn't do if they were in the right state of mind. Lovers Romeo and Juliet's addiction led them to a fateful overdose. Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare about star-crossed lovers whose family's feud ultimately leads them to an untimely end. Romeo and Juliet's suicide shows that Cupid's arrows, while romantic, are sharp as daggers.

Well this is basically what Romeo, Juliet, and both their families let happen in the story, Romeo & Juliet written by playwright and poet, William Shakespeare; moreover, do you think this could have been prevented? I believe the deaths of both Romeo and Juliet alike could have easily been avoided. If Romeo was not as impulsive and irrational in his actions, both he and Juliet would still have their desired happy ending.
Nonetheless, when Romeo offers a good sum of money, he decides to sell it. He decides to sell it because of his financial situation, supported when he tells Romeo that his “poverty but not my will consent[s]” (5.1.78). This remark is an homage to the idea that poor people are willing to bend the rules to get ahead. The Apothecary also sells the poison to get ahead, in this case financially. One thing that is very prominent in the play is how the characters’ tragic flaws influence the sad ending of the play. This play is about two forbidden lovers who fall in love and meet a tragic demise. Of course, many characters are to blame for this, but there are three characters whose flaws cause the ending of their stories. Those characters are Romeo with his impulsiveness, Juliet with her passion, and Friar Lawrence with his pride; these characters all influence the tragic ending.

Poison's purpose is to kill or get rid of therefore poison is not anyone's first thought when it comes to a love story. In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the symbol of poison is seen in Juliet faking her death, Romeo purchasing a vial with the intention of killing himself, and Juliet kissing the remnant of poison on late Romeo's lips with hopes of death.
In my opinion I think that the feud between the two main families, the Capulets and the Montagues, is the most responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death. The conflict between these two families is so distasteful that it causes Romeo and Juliet even more of a struggle as they try to find and keep their love. This conflict between the Capulets and the Montagues has been going on for a very long time and neither side is willing to make up for whatever may have happened in the past. Because of this a strong dislike is portrayed when someone sees a person from the opposite side. If the family feud wouldn’t have existed Romeo and Juliet would not have any large reason to hide their relationship.
