Law officials in the States have been known to abuse their authority to inflict excessive force on black people. Police brutality in part deals with the issue of ethnic discrimination, racism, racial profiling and inequality. Black Americans who are killed by police are twice as likely to be unarmed as white people. Accordingly, the research questions that will be examined in this case study are as follows. First, this paper will determine whether black people are at a higher risk of being targeted by police in the United States. Subsequently, the question of whether police brutality should be considered a human right violation will be posed. It is important to discuss these questions because it involves the state’s obligation to protect the lives of its citizens through trained and impartial police officers.

The importance of gaining recognition for this human right issue will be examined and reiterated. Secondly, the concept of police brutality and police abuse of power will be defined. Subsequently, the causes of police brutality will also be examined. For example, race and ethnic origin play a central role in police brutality in the United States. Thirdly, the effects of discrimination on African-American people will be discussed. In addition, this paper will differentiate between how black American peoples’ lives are different from white American peoples’ lives when it involves the treatment by police officers.
