Police Brutality towards African Americans
Police brutality has been going on for about five years now. With recent events such as Travon Martin, Sandra Bland, and Freddie Gray have led to great losses. Police have taken their authority to protect and serve people for the wrong reason. Police brutality should not happen to the African American community or any other race.
Police should not racial profile African Americans for what they are wearing are doing. While reading this article “Racism and Police Brutality in America”, it informs the reader about the past police brutality event that shook the African American community. That event was the Rodney King police beating. While reading this article the reader can also learn the studies, past history, and the recent police brutality events. Studies have shown that 8 percent of African Americans and 56 percent of Caucasian Americans saw the treatment of police brutality towards African Americans. Past history of police brutality consists of people such a Rodney King, blacks who there in the civil rights era, and others African Americans who have been brutalized by police. While reading this article “The Michael Brown Legacy: Police Brutality and Minority” it informs the reader about the short life of an African American by the name of Michael Brown. Michael Brown was an 18 year old African American who was killed in Ferguson, Missouri by a white police officer. The police officer that killed the unarmed teenager was Darrew Wilson. After everyone heard of Michael Brown death the streets of Ferguson were packed with protesters saying “Black lives Matter”. After a couple of weeks the St. Louis prosecutor said that the grand jury will not indict Darrew Wilson for the death of Michael Brown.
