Innocent Lives Lost to Police Brutality Police brutality claimed the lives of many innocent civilian every year. Just last year alone, it took the lives of 963 people (“Deadly Force and Police Accountability). Cases of police brutality, which lead to the death of Michael Brown and many others, lead to protest around the nation (“Deadly Force and Police Accountability”). Police brutality doesn’t just take the lives of the civilian’s abused by the police, but can indirectly lead to other’s death from an ineffective working police force (“Race, Trust, and Police Legitimacy”). Police brutality is a huge problem and must be fixed before it claims more lives. Police brutality has been a problem for many centuries in the United States (“Police Brutality”). Many things in the past have been done to try to fix this problem. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, The Violent Crime Control and Enforcement Act of 1994 was passed to control and prevent crime. Section 210402 of the act let researchers collect data from law enforcements research and create statistics. They can use the research to discover possible ways to fix this problem or to help show trends on this topic. But still today, police brutality is still a problem. …show more content…

There have been many cases of police brutality who fatally shot innocent victims. According to Amnesty, an unarmed African American is five times as likely to get shot and killed than a white person (“Deadly Force and Police Accountability”). Police brutality can lead to distrust with polices in the community, which is caused by the feeling of getting singled out because of your race or religion. Distrust can make it harder for the polices to do their job efficiently which can lead to other problems (“Race, Trust, and Police Legitimacy”).
