The presence of political bias, political stances and associations in university classrooms are increasingly inclined. However, little is known about how these biases affect student-teacher perspectives. The aim of my research is to further study what affect and influence teacher political biases have on their students overall class perspective. This topic area is related to the area of political communication. I am interested in the influence politics has between teacher-student relationships and how bias in the classroom affects the student’s perspective of the teacher and course.
I think my research topic falls into the interpretive paradigm. I am looking for the perspective of the participants in my study and I am looking to understand

I think that if a student is positively influenced then they will have a higher perspective of the overall class course, even if it not in a political classroom setting. I also a little bit more about this topic after looking at some previous research, so that could be from knowing by authority. I hope to further my knowing by authority later in the research process. I also hope to know more about this topic by methods of research by conducting surveys and interviews with both current JMU professors and …show more content…
I think this topic is relevant now, especially since political biases have been something that have been around for decades and will continue to stay for more. I believe that it’s important to see how these biases affect students, especially since many schools, including JMU, tend to hold more liberal views. The 2008 presidential election is complete evidence of the U.S.’s increasing diversity. This diversity is paralleled in university classrooms. This diversity leads to competing attitudes, beliefs, and ideas. College students are impressionable and young adults. College is a time for students to break free from their parents and define what values and ideals they believe to be true. The knowledge that will be gained from this research will help to either modify the way teachers express their biases in the classroom or modify how students allow their teachers’ biases to impact their perspective of the overall
