During the beginning of the American Revolutionary War, was a time when the colonist were beginning to want their own rights and rules and not to be controlled by the British anymore. So as a result Benjamin Franklin created a picture in the Pennsylvania Gazette of a chopped up snake and some of the colonies on the snake. It was created on May 9th, 1754. It's believed to be the first ever political cartoon published in the New World. There are many different beliefs as to what this cartoon stands for and the reasons why Benjamin Franklin decided to publish it.
