According to the engraving (painting) in document three the British soldiers are portrayed like murderers. The soldiers had a huge advantage over the colonists since they were armed, skilled and organized. Ready to aim and kill anyone that got in their way, the soldiers took no chances and fired up uncontrollably. This attack left many colonists wounded and several of them died. Colonists were just throwing snowballs at them but the soldiers reacted way out of place. A brutal slaughter of people for a minor action of anger? The Boston Massacre inspired and motivated the colonists to take a stand against the British to protect their rights. He caught the revolutionary movement’s attention and caused controversy when he refused to make peace with England. In document six, Thomas expresses his opinion towards the events that fueled anger between the colonists towards the Parliament. “. No man was a warmer wisher for a [peaceful settlement] than myself, before the fatal nineteenth of April 1775 [the battles at Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts, occurred on this day], but the moment the event of that day was made known, I rejected the hardened, sullen-tempered [King of England] forever.” The Battle of Lexington and Concord destroyed the peaceful life of the colonies. Numerous people were left wounded and many dead bodies were left in the battlefield. The British ran a tyranny that will eventually destroy the liberty of the colonies hence, they have no other option than to rebel and resist by force. Thomas once said, “Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.” He wanted to contribute the fact that the only way to obtain true freedom is by breaking away from what is keeping you captive.
