Battle of Camden The battle of Camden fought on august 16th 1780 during the revolutionary war, Reasons for the British for attacking Camden were varied depending on opinions and notes. From that point on there were many reasons for the attack but the main one could definitely be that the British needed Camden for personal gain. General Horatio gates (the leader of the defensive militia) was assigned to take back north, Carolina with men who were not mentally or physically trained, since they weren't, they were demolished about 2,000 - 3,000 British to Camden. One way they might not have used camden for personal gain is that they gained more supplies and could have used the prisoners for ransom, The goal for the Americans was to protect north, carolina after getting word that Camden was captured, general Horatio Gates lost his place. And as you would see after losing the battle, it caused them to switch out general's which helped but it left it hard for them to get anywhere now because they lost one of their militias. Horatio gates was one of the generals appointed to protect camden from the british, there was just one thing that most did not know, He betrayed his people and army, before in the battle of Saratoga. In that battle he betrayed his people by giving away their battle strategies, their positions, their supplies and about any counter attacks all so he could live. This shows that he was never trustworthy. The battle of camden was his last chance to prove to the people that he can do right in the end he failed and he was thrown out of his job of being general and was shunned for
