Based on the political debate, I’ve learned many things about the Democratic-Republicans and the Federalists. For example, the Democratic-Republicans believed that having an economy that was based upon agriculture and farming was the best way to succeed. They thought that most citizens were good, and that there should be a more state-centered government so that the people can generally rule themselves. Democratic-Republicans thought that if the constitution didn’t specify something, you can’t read between the lines and make up what you want to do. They also believed that they should help France in the war against England because in the American Revolution, France had helped them.
The differences between the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans is that they both have different leaders. For Example, the Federalists leader was Alexander Hamilton and they were favored for multiple reasons such as, strong federal government, loosing interpretation of the constitution, they supported the representative government, and the federalists were ruled by the wealthy class. The Democratic-Republicans leader was Thomas Jefferson and they were ruled by the people. They were also favored by multiple reasons for example, they had a strong state government, strict interpretation of the constitution, just to name a few. As you can see they both are absolutely different from each other especially in the war against the French.
Jefferson's democratic-republican party views are always contradictory to the Federalist party founded by Alexander Hamilton. Jefferson believes in small federal government and more powers to individual states, his policies are around people and they should rule the government. Jefferson always follows strict constitutional rules. Jefferson always believed the country economy will improve through the agriculture. Hamilton views are very contrasted to Jefferson's view.
Both Jefferson and Hamilton had differing ideas of how the country should be like. For example, Hamilton wanted an industrial economy while Jefferson wanted an agrarian economy. This, and many differing ideas for the countries policies, caused two parties to form. The Federalists, led by Hamilton and John Adams, wanted a strong central government while the Democratic-Republicans, led by Jefferson and James Maddison, wanted a weak central government. The two parties were somewhat based on geographical discrimination, Federalists were typically from the northern colonies while Democratic-Republicans were typically from the southern colonies.
The two parties were the Republicans and the Federalists. The Republicans hoped government took a lesser approach to everyday life. Its individualistic perspective includes living in moderation, be tough, don’t spend more than you have to, and be honest. These lofty goals and ambitions were reasonable in the late 1700’s, early 1800’s, however, now most
Bernie Sanders and the Democratic party share similar views on many of the issues that the United States faces. While they share the same views Sanders is generally seen as leaning more left than most of the general party 's stances. Sanders is pro choice, believes in gender and marriage equality, believes that war should be a last resort option, believes that we should continue our fight with ISIS but the majority of the work should be done by the Muslim nations and we should use coalitions and not try to do it all by ourselves, Sanders wants to make public colleges tuition and debt free, and he wants to have more taxes on the billionaire class, and make them pay their fair share. The Federalist and Democratic-Republicans were the first and original political parties. They share exceedingly different views on America's problems. Federalists and Democratic-Republicans are known for not getting along. They had plenty of differences but also some similarities. Their views and actions formed the America we live in today.
These two totally different political parties were able to agree on one very important topic, their goal and a free republic for our nation. However, if the topic “government” gets brought up, they have two totally different ideas. The Federalists thought we should have a strong Federal Government with a national bank. On the contrary, Democratic Republicans wanted a weak federal government with state banks. Even though we used to be ruled by the British, Federalists were Pro - British, whereas Democratic - Republicans were Pro - French.
Early in the United States’ history, America became divided between two parties: The Federalists and the Democrats. The Federalists were led by Alexander Hamilton, and the Democrats were supported by Thomas Jefferson. These parties disagreed over many different political and economic issues. Although these parties do not exist today, remnants of their policies can still be seen in politics today. Hamilton and Jefferson opposed each other on numerous issues.
Jefferson favored those who were naturally talented, plus he didn’t think you needed to be a wealthy person to be apart of the government. Democratic-Republicans were usually farmers, or those who didn’t want to be controlled by the government. They believed in themselves and that they would be able to govern themselves. The Federalists and Democratic-Republicans had their differences and had few similarities.
The Federalists were led by Alexander Hamilton while the Democratic Republicans were headed by someone who constantly butted heads with Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson. Both parties also differed by class and region, the Federalists were based out of the north and consisted mainly of merchants and the wealthy. On the other hand, Democratic Republicans were from the South and had many farmers. As a result of their region and class differences the political parties had very simple contrasts. While the Federalists desired a strong central government, loose construction, and an economy based on manufacturing and trade, the Democratic Republicans wanted to maintain Revolutionary ideas, strict construction, and an economy based on farming.
The Democrats believe there should be only cuts for middle and low-income families, but believe they should be taxed at a higher rate on corporations and wealthy individuals. The Republicans believe there should be tax cuts for everyone, both corporations and people of all income levels. “The Republicans passed the Bankruptcy Bill favoring credit card businesses over Americans whose budgets are destroyed by job loss or medical bills” (Freeman 329). In their turn, the Democrats have passed the Welfare Reform Act, cutting benefits for the poorest layers of the American population.
Democrats, on the other had, tended to favor small government and states' rights. However, in translating these philosophies into policy, neither party was very creative or ambitious. Both Democrats and Republicans treated the majority problems of the Gilded Age
Both the Democrats and the Republicans like to think of themselves as the true heirs of Thomas Jefferson. The modern Democrats are historically descended from the Democratic-Republican Party that Jefferson himself organized to thwart the ambitions of Alexander Hamilton (although, ironically, they were known as "Republicans" in Jefferson 's time). Democrats around the country annually celebrate Jefferson-Jackson Dinners, avowedly declaring a connection between Jefferson and the modern Democratic Party. But Republicans claim that their platform of small government and low taxes is more in line with true Jeffersonian philosophy than that of the big-government Democrats.
They believe that taking away guns will prevent gun violence in America. Democrats support abortion and the women’s right to choose whether or not to keep their baby. The LGBT receives strong support from the Democrats and Democrats lobby for their rights by passing federal laws. Social issues is probably the topic the two parties disagree on the most, but they do agree occasionally. Republican and Democrats are both strong supporters of voters’ rights.
