The water eventually dragged her to that point where her son was. She also then regained consciousness and started to cry and scream for the amount of pain she was in. After reading Raymond Carver’s short story, “Popular Mechanics”, I instantly recognized the connection between Carver’s story and the story of King Solomon’s wisdom. In the biblical account of king Solomon’s reign; Solomon is approached by two women. Both women had both gave birth, one to a stillborn and one to a healthy baby. In the book The Heartbreak of Aaron Burr the author, H.W. Brands, takes and obvious stance in favor of Burr. In comparison to the first chapter of The Duel by Joseph Ellis, many differences in the authors’ opinions are apparent. Brands heavily favors Burr. In “Popular Mechanics” Carver shows the struggle of being cheated on and the fight between the couple over their baby. The baby becomes more of an item when they fight trying to show who is a better person and parent. In “Hills Like White Elephants” Hemingway shows that not everyone wants to have a baby and that it can change your life drastically.
