Nonverbal communication is more than just how you view an individual. Nonverbal communication between people is communication through sending and receiving wordless signals. This message can be communicated verbally. On the other hand, nonverbally parents don’t allow their kids to grow apart and mature properly. When you mix communications saying one thing and acting another, you start to confuse the child causing them to stay true to what they know because personally I believe “actions speak louder than words.” The same kinds of communication can be confused daily like in school and in the work place. Stinnett explains an example of a supervisor giving a short announcement of a new corporate database that will be taking place at work. When describing the idea she uses cheerful phrases and predictions. The supervisor confuses her employees because she doesn’t show positive nonverbal gestures. The supervisor doesn’t make eye contact with her employees nor addresses the hands raised for questions on the program. When the employees ask the supervisor to specify, she responded with an nonchalant attitude and tells them to talk to the human resources department. In closing the supervisor states her open door policy and that they should let her know if they run into any issues. The behavior that she is portraying and her verbal words are contradicting in itself. “Effective leadership training can help address all of these issues” (Stinnett, 2015, p. 14).
Verbal and nonverbal messages are like relationships, they work well together that way the message is sent and delivered appropriately and that there is no miscommunication. With leadership training Bill Stinnett states that clearer communication and with developing of the needed skills, the participants will find the training more efficient. “Leadership training that does not show participants how to better meet their organizational objectives will be rejected” (Stinnett, 2015,
