In Macbeth, the two minor characters that I choose is the Porter and the three murders. The Porter was introduced in after Macbeth killed King Duncan. For the three murders introduced when Macbeth hired them to kill Banquo and later on to kill Macduff family. How do they contribute and what's their significance behind them? Why did Shakespeare include them?
The first minor character will be the Porter, he is a gatekeeper a metaphor for the gates of hell, because everyone who tried to stop Macbeth will enter hell. Also, the Porter was and the only character to try to remove some hype from a tension after the murdering of King Duncan by Macbeth. He also cast a light mood after Macbeth losing his sanity after killing King Duncan. For example, in the approach of a tragedy, he makes fun of Lady Macbeth fears. This makes people laugh at his speech or soliloquy. My next minor character is the three murders, why did Shakespeare add them?
Three murders hired and ordered to kill Banquo by Macbeth, which is the main conflict. They also impact the conflict of Lady Macbeth and drove her into sanity, " Here's the smell of blood still the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand. O.O.O". ( 5.1.42-43) As Lady Macbeth looks at her hands while she is sleepwalking, claims there is not enough perfume to get rid of the stench of Duncan's blood. Three murders influence Macbeth to go bonkers as well when they reported that Banquo is dead and Fleance escapes at the banquet.
As the murders leave, Macbeth returns to the feast looking over the table. Banquo's afterlife ghost appears to take a seat in Macbeth chair. The guest wants Macbeth to sit down and eat, but Macbeth claims the table is full. When Lennox points to an empty seat that Macbeth was assigned to sit, Macbeth is shocked to see Banquo's ghost. He comes face to face the ghost of Banquo, " Thou canst not say I did it. Never Shake thy gory looks at me". (3.4.49-50). As the guests are really confused by his
