Introduction: The tragic events that transpired on September 11, 2001, marked a defining moment in American history. The terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center not only shook our nation to its core but also prompted significant changes in regulation and legislation. I believe it can be argued that the laws and regulation passed as a result of the terrorist attacks, have had some positive outcomes for our American society, but the significant negative consequences that followed afterwards cannot be ignored, such as increased government surveillance on American citizens and blatant discrimination against certain groups of individuals.

They became targets of discrimination, hate crimes, and racial profiling, which further worsened their own psychological distress. This labeling of an entire community due to the actions of a few not only invigorated a culture of fear but also eradicated the principles of empathy and inclusivity that American citizens once upheld. Despite the positive outcomes of the laws and regulations that passed after 9/11, it is important to acknowledge the significant negative consequences as well.
