CONCLUSION : This report has highlighted the many types of social worker that there are and has looked into the many different roles that they play in the community. It outlined the many challenges that social workers face and this was supported by both an interview with a child protection social worker and with research done online. The author concludes that while social work is a very stressful and emotionally draining career it is also very rewarding for those who are interested in helping people. There are many positive aspects and negative aspects that have been outlined in this report.

Why? Why not?
That’s a difficult question because the work that I do involves working with children and families who are going through struggles in their lives so in that sense I don’t enjoy it but I do enjoy being able to make a difference in those peoples lives.
What is the most difficult part of your job?
Children and the adults in these childrens lives can sometimes be angry or upset about the situation and can take this anger out on me which I find very upsetting and even scary sometimes. Also some clients will not work with me to make the changes that I feel is necessary to help them and it is very important for me to respect their choices even if I feel they are making the wrong choice.
What do you think it means to be a good social worker?
I think it is important to be the social worker that you would want to have. It is important to remember that rather than just thinking of your clients as cases you should remember that that could be you or your child or your friend. It is important to see things from their point of view and not just a professional point of you. I also think it is hugely important to reflect on each experience you have in order to learn to be a better more compassionate and helpful social
