Purpose of the Study
The purpose of this study was to find the comorbidity between PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and depression. Researchers are unclear of the underlying reason for this high degree of comorbidity. There are reasons to suspect that those PTSD and those with a high comorbidity of both depression and PTSD are associated with a reduced quality of life. One theory claims that the disorders represent underlying stress. There is no one explanation for the high degree of depression combined and observed in individuals with PTSD. This could also be due to reduced Veteran quality of life, which has been conceptualized as a person’s physical, mental, and social well-being.

Method and Data Collected
This data came from Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) clinics. The “CAPS” and the “DSM-Axis I Disorder” were both clinician-administered interviews. The “CAPS” measured PTSD diagnosis, and the “DSM-Axis I Disorder” measured depression. Quality of life was measured by marital status, income, and others. It was assessed using social material conditions, satisfaction, conditions and functions. Subjects who participated completed self-reports and clinician-administered interviews to determine PTSD and depression symptoms, as well as quality of life domains. The data collected fell under three categories; Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Depression, and Quality of Life. All subjects had a written consent. The standards for the study was a diagnosis of PTSD based on the “CAPS” interview test. Participants were primarily white, Pacific Islander, or Asian. The subjects were either in the Army, Marines, Navy, and Air Force. They mainly served in the Vietnam War, OIF/OEF, or Operations Desert Storm/Shield
