Research Problem
This research article is designed to determine the correlation between veterans and homelessness. The study is examining how past and present trauma affect veterans’ ability to function in social and professional settings, which in turn affects their ability to support themselves.
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to determine if trauma that occurred before, after, or while serving in the military is related to the high percentages of homelessness in veterans.
Hypothesis
If veterans experienced trauma while serving, before serving, or after serving in armed forces the odds of them being homeless are increased. Trauma has a strong correlation to mental health issues which can affect one’s stability in life.

Participants had an average age of 45 and their service time and length varied. Confidential information about the veterans were shared to the researchers through case managers, which implies that these participants have been living with mental illness for quite some time.
Results
The hypothesis from this study was supported by the results from the same study. Researchers found that the the relationship between mental health and veterans played a role in their homelessness. Over 75% of the veterans in the study reported that they experienced PPD in their life (Carlson, Gavert, Macia, Ruzek, & Burling, 2013).
Conclusion
According to the study the relationship between veterans and various mental health issues are related to high percentages of homelessness. Almost all of the veterans that participated in the study experienced some form of trauma and at least 30% experienced multiple types of trauma (Carlson, Gavert, Macia, Ruzek, & Burling,
