Practitioner-scholars are trained psychologists, who operate in a variety of settings after they are licensed. What unifies them are well-developed clinical skills, a deep understanding of how to effectively and ethically deliver clinical services to diverse populations and a solid foundation in the science of psychology. Charles McClintock 2003 defines the scholar-practitioner as “an ideal of professional excellence grounded in theory and research, informed by experimental knowledge, and motivated by personal values, political commitments, and ethical conduct (McClintock, 2003)”. Therefore, the expectations of me as a practitioner-scholar will involve to prepare me for success needs developed and mature key competencies such as: understand academic theories, become a critical thinker: prepare you to learn how to analyze and judge information, along with the ability to break down information and recombine it into new ideas, detect bias in research, and use data to make high-level decisions (Capella 1999-2017).
