The Industrial Revolution was a controversial time period and many workers felt they weren’t being respected. Their employers abused them and made their jobs much more difficult than they had to be. Eventually, these workers were fed up and formed unions in order to change their society. In the Preamble and Declaration of Principles of the Knights of Labor of America, it demonstrates the frustration that workers had towards capitalists and corporations. They are issuing this because they want to improve their conditions and promote equality among employers and employees. In the American Federation of Labor Declaration of Principles, it talks about how the gap between the oppressed and oppressor is large and as a society they need to address it. Their goal is to support the skilled workers from being suppressed by machinery and subdivisions of labor, while also maintaining the idea of American workmanship. It also reiterates the idea that this problem has been slowly growing by the year and has affected the wage workers drastically in a negative matter. Finally, the Preamble to the Constitution of the Industrial Workers of the World has a goal of overthrowing capitalism and organizing society into a place where the working class and employing class are equal. It is calling for the working class to take a stand and become their own independent entity. All 3 of these excerpts contain positive propositions towards attaining their goals of a more fair playing field. They all want to do away with capitalism, improve working environments, and reduce the gap between the monopolies and the workers inside it.
