“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” -George Santayana. Any man who does not know what happened in history is doomed to repeat it. This means that there is relevance in studying history, the Holocaust was one of the most despicable times in history and nobody should have to live through that after we already know it happened and how to prevent it. I want to explain how to prevent every rung on the ladder of prejudice. The first rung is Prejudice. This means having a distinct sense of dislike towards a certain group or groups of people. People need to realize that none of us are actually the same, just similar. Realize that we are human and not pigs or scumm. Our society and world needs to see the people on this planet as people, what they are. Again something that we need to work on as a people. The fifth is violent outbreak, this means arson, a mugging or any act of violence upon someone you don't like. Obviously the way to avoid this is to avoid every other rung but using a higher power over someone is pathetic. People should realize if a person is willing to fight physically then so be it but it is unfair and cowardice to purposely hurt someone who has done nothing to deserve it. The last rung is Genocide, genocide is a mass killing of a group of people which is often government sanctioned, the only way to stop this to to retaliate when it is happening. If a society cannot prevent such an awful thing from happening or retaliate, millions of people could die because one person thought a group was unwanted or unneeded in the world.
