Interpretation: This video is very straightforward, it is clear to me that the Artist, Carrie Mae Weems, didn’t wish to simply play out the history, but reenacted it how she remembers it using her own artistic twist. She explains that although the civil rights movement had happened when she was younger, we are still fighting the same issues today. She showcases this in the scene in which she is talking to a beautiful [white] barista and when the topic of race is introduced the conversation becomes somewhat awkward. Much has happened since this video was created and her still shots displayed.

King then organised a series of peaceful marches and sit-ins, at libraries and restaurants, protesting to the businesses who would not hire them.

Work and life can certainly get in the way and can drain a person’s essence and willpower. Frankly, people need to recharge their batteries and try an escape the monotony. Hence, I will be taking a trip to a couple of fairs in Minnesota in the coming days.
Morrison expresses how isolation forms within the middle class black neighborhood as they cling on to systematic racist views. Morrison, once again, contrasts between the outer beauty of the neighborhoods to the inner incentives of the middle class African Americans. In these neighborhoods, there are “hollyhocks” that are “narrow, tall, and still. Their roots are deep, their stalks are firm, and only the top blossom nods in the wind” (82).
