Crash The movie Crash depicted the interactions between different races in the city of Los Angeles. Most of the characters were both a victim of and disseminator of racist ideals. The contact between these characters, the collisions, were often violent and racially charged. This movie showcased both the racist bigot and a sympathetic side to many of the characters, portraying the complexity and pervasiveness of racism and class divisions. In the first encounter, a white women, Jean, shys away from two black men, Anthony and Peter, dressed as college students. One of the most twisted is between a black woman, Christine, and a white police officer, Ryan. Ryan stops the car that both Christine and her husband are in as he suspects that they are an interracial couple and due to their sexually-charged distracted driving practices. After the couple gets out of the car, and Ryan sees that they are both black, he uses a full-body search of Christine to sexually molest her. Several days later, Christine gets into a car accident and Ryan arrives on the scene. Recognizing him, Christine becomes hysterical, but Ryan eventually removes her from the burning vehicle and gets her to the paramedics. While trying to buy a gun in a shop, the white shop owner accuses Farhad of being Arab, calls him “Osama,” and tells him to vacate the store. A day after acquiring the gun, a door in Farhad’s shop needs repair, so he sends for Daniel, a Hispanic locksmith. When Daniel tells Farhad that it is the door that needs repair, not just the lock, Farhad accuses Daniel of conspiracy, claiming that Daniel has friends who repair doors and seek to cheat Farhad.
