In March 2020, the world was stricken with life-altering events. The COVID-19 pandemic changed the everyday lives of nearly every person and specifically caused significant destruction to the economy of the United States. Democrat Joe Biden was inaugurated as President of the United States in January 2021. While dealing with the pandemic when it was at full force, he is now also a significant force in the nation's recovery in 2023. The State of the Union Address is an annual speech in which the president addresses problems in the country, and poses solutions to those problems. Though the speech is addressed to Congress, it has a broader audience of all American people. In his 2023 Address, President Biden specifically calls upon his “Republican friends”, who hold a majority in the House of Representatives, in the solutions to the problems of the nation. In his 2023 State of the Union Address, President Joe Biden highlights the current problems in the country, and poses, to both Congress and Republicans, possible solutions.
