Approximately 250,000 out of 2.5 million people in the pageantry industry are children, and a huge sum of these children have/are facing abuse. Children are being forced into pageants by their parents just for the money. These pageants can cause many mental issues. This specific industry along with some others can sexualize young children. Beauty Pageants are extremely harmful, because they damage mental health and are expensive; however, pageantry can be beneficial to their social lives.

There are similar competitions held at similar levels internationally as well. These events bring people together who are passionate about the same things, building bridges between cultures and societies with their mutual love of pageantry. (Lenert)” Although a large sum of people are gaining an immense amount of recognition, the more well known you are the less privacy you will experience. Not to mention, the expenses to beautify someone can be costly, and most people would be better off saving their money. A mouthpiece-type retainer called a “flipper,” is often used to make children with missing front teeth look less gap ridden and more perfect.” (Everhart)” These pageants can assist people in earning money to stabilize themselves financially, as well as develop healthy social skills.
