The Protestant Reformation was a reformative movement which had initiated centuries of ongoing amendments and refinements to the way the Catholic Church. The Reformation initially started in 1517 when a German man by the name of Martin Luther created the 95 Theses which described his issues with the Church. His beliefs spread through Germany and throughout the rest of Europe and other reformers such as Calvin and Zwingli shared some of his ideas. The primary causes which led to the beginning of the Reformation were the church’s selling of indulgences and their corrupt use of political strength and power. The church’s both selling of indulgences and misuse of power were amongst the most important primary causes of the Reformation. The church would sell indulgences which acted as excuses for sins that a person could buy for themselves or a family member. Nepotism was the instance where a person who possessed power to favor a family member and provide them with a job. While an issue like nepotism was definitely big in such a way that one large family can have a wide variety of connections within the church. It does not have the intensity and does not amount to the church robbing money from the people and their misusing of power because the church was an all powerful group and hierarchy that everyone needed to listen to, but when they perform corrupt actions such as in these instances it makes people question how they ever got to be so powerful.
