Progressives were known to want to change society and improve conditions. They focused their efforts on urban settings. (Barnes & Bowles 2014) They wanted to help people have a nice place to live, one that was not over crowded, also to help them have clean water/food. This is during a time when there was no welfare, food stamps, or Medicaid. If people had no job/money they struggled and if they got sick, then they really had no way to take care of themselves. The progressives were fighting to help these people and, in a way, this is very similar to things people are still fighting for today. Women started getting involved around this time as well.
