Humans wrote myths long ago, yet have a lot of relatable truths and morals. For example, in the myth of “Prometheus,” his kindness of giving gifts to humans out of his pity for not being able to survive yet ends him up in severe punishment. Similarly, in The Lightning Thief, Thalia’s bravery and compassion end up with her having to be sacrificed. In both texts, Prometheus and Thalia show how good deeds may end in misfortune. 1 A theme to learn from the myth “Prometheus” is that good deeds may come with unfair consequences. Prometheus began to pity man, and wished to give them a gift, yet couldn’t find any except for the god's powers. When Percy asked about the big three and their cabins for their children, Grover explained the story of the last child of the big three. On page 87, Grover explains,” They were about to be overrun when Thalia told her satyr to take the other two half-bloods to safety while she held off the monsters.” This shows that Thalia was doing a heroic action, saving the half-bloods, nonetheless lives, which one may assume rewarded her as if one was a half-blood one have high risk because one can be targeted by both man and mythical creatures and weapons, yet she had a gloomy fate. This is later shown to be Grover and explained that she didn’t make it out alive. He says,” So Thalia made her final stand alone. As she died, Zeus took pity on her. He turned her into a pine tree.” This shows how sacrifices can be unrewarding, as even though she could’ve turned and run, she decided to be noble even though there would’ve been better ways of handling them, such as all of them fleeing which will most likely save all, yet she didn't, which shows that sacrifices don’t always pay off.
