Before the attack of influenza, the idea was that bacteria created diseases. Bacteria was the cause of some diseases and where able to be grown in a culture and where able to be seen in a microscope. Bacteria where the only thing that was imperceptible with the living eye, living and causes several upper respiratory and other causes. Antibiotics where brand new and work wonders against the bacteria that caused many symptoms. There was some disease that they were not able to explain with bacteria exactly. Those diseases where polio, chicken pox, rabies the antibiotics did not work with these viruses. The hypothesis that something smaller called a virus was highly discredited by the scientific field. Their reasoning was that the “viruses” could not be grown in a lab or be seen under a microscope and therefore it must not exist because it is too small. Viruses are also not living since they cannot reproduce on their own. So how could a virus kill and come back without living? Also, viruses tend to evolve to explain how an epidemic doesn’t happen every year, which was rejected in a lot of American schools and scientific
