The theme of this novel has been to never discriminate nor formulate judgements or assumptions without having the right information or knowledge. This theme has been effectively used throughout the entire novel, yet is primarily used in the way Seth and Eli’s judgements and assumptions become demolished after learning the truth about the Droughtland and gaining their own experiences among the Droughtlanders. This created a strong message in which we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover without reading the pages within, shouldn’t label or stereotype others and ensure social equality. The author communicates this theme clearly with Eli when he first lays his eyes upon Triskelia, the prime rebel base for the Triskelians in the Droughtland. He says and feels like this about the base: “‘That’s Triskelia?’
In the propaganda poster picture it shows how all these countries was like a chain if you touch them we will... . as it said things like this in the poster it shows how big this was it involved the whole world and making these enemies and allies it a torrential thing in how our country can progress in the future especially our people. It shows how big of a thing we were entering and this was affecting the people because it was very dangerous. And it was a huge chain reaction of countries where you were always making different enemies because whoever you fight with has people under them and under them so it was not a good situation to make enemies at this time. “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” This quote from Elie Wiesel, who is the author of the best selling book Night and who himself survived the greatest injustice, the holocaust (Bio. Com), addresses an effective method to fighting injustice, protesting, which is found in both the readings on Socrates and Martin Luther King Jr.’s Letter From Birmingham Jail. But what causes injustice so that “there may be times when we are powerless to prevent” it? From my desire to address the primary cause of injustice, resulted my thesis that ignorance anywhere is injustice everywhere.

However, in our world propaganda has been used to unite a country through targeted mass persuasion. This is seen in two classic U.S propaganda posters that encourage U.S citizens to join the army: “I want you”(index 1) and “Remember Dec. 7th” (index 2).
The poster depicted a Japanese soldier carrying a naked, white women. Many posters like this one demonstrated severe amounts of racism in order to cast the enemies as less than human. This influenced the audience to then morally justify the way they feel about the enemy. Propaganda posters first appeared during WW1 (1914-18) when governments decided it was important to show their engagement with the public, it was also a method of enlisting men and selling war bonds in order to finance the military campaign. It was a time of war and this meant that advertising was used to attract war workers, volunteers and soldiers. One of the most notable posters was in 1914, which was an image of the Minister of War in the England with a steely gaze pointing his finger in an attempt to urge young men to enlist in the army. Every other country in the war then seemed to follow suite and use the exact same propaganda approach. In Germany a Reich soldier, pointing his finger patriotically or an Italian soldier doing the same.

It is possible to say that a stereotype is nothing more than a weapon. It exists merely in thought, but is able to hurt a person as well as a nation. Yet, it is what many people believe to be true, even despite the overwhelming lack of evidence. One of the more accepted stereotypes are those of the people of Iran, in Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis, the author tries to redefine Iranian stereotypes by illustrating that when individuals and their hopes are taken into account, stereotypes are not as simple as they seem. Throughout the book, Satrapi portrays, dispels, confirms, and challenges stereotypes all to show that people are much deeper than stereotypes and to get to that truth, sometimes rejecting stereotypes is necessary.

The book is set in the year 1980, in Iran where Islam was a major religion at the time. This is also the time for the Islamic Revolution which kicked the Shau out of office and made Iran a theocracy. In Persepolis, Satrapi challenges negative stereotypes about Iranians through important characters who oppose the Islamic Regime.
Persepolis is the graphic novel which shows how Marjane grows up under a repressive government in Iran. After the Islamic revolution in 1979, many things were changed by the government such as school curriculums. They closed university to make sure that all books are following the true path of Islam (Satrapi 73). One of the important change, in Persepolis, was the obligation of wearing the veil. The veil is covered women 's skin or hair as a symbol of devotion and modesty for the Islamic religion (Lazreg 10).
Effects on the Memoir Persepolis Marjane Satrapi’s novel Persepolis describes experiences during the Islamic Regime that leave people suffering, dying, and fighting for a better government. Marjane Satrapi uses a comic layout to illustrate what is difficult to say in words. Her panel design depicts images of her, her family, and friends as well as how people in the community are reacting to the different events of the revolution. The use of panel design assists the memoir by making Satrapi’s purpose of portraying information more successful. Throughout the novel Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi uses panel design to advance the reader 's’ knowledge of the many situations occurring in Iran that cause distress to many individuals rebelling against the regime.

Stereotypes can be formed due to effects of media, as Wood describes media as pervasive, powerful and influential (31). Hence, stereotypes can be defined as inaccurate perceptions towards a group of people or community that is strongly influenced by the media. Whether positive or negative, stereotypes are usually false as they are formed based on personal judgments, which are biased or exaggerated. When stereotypes are consistently portrayed in media platforms, they subconsciously form and maintain assumed identities for the stereotyped groups.
