In this essay I a goin to discuss both gulf wars, the reasons that brought them about and how both side dealt with the other. I will also discus the different types of propaganda and how it they were used in the gulf war.
The Persian Gulf War also known as the Gulf War took place from 1990 to 1991. It was an international armed conflict that was caused by Iraq invading their small nabouring country Kuwait after negotiations over oil production and debt repayment broke down. The leader of Iraq at the time, Saddam Hussein claimed that Kuwait had been overproducing oil to western nations.This he said cost Iraq an estimate of $14 billion a year because of declining oil prices.
Ater many years of conflict between Iran and Iraq had ended in a ceasefire assisted by the UN in August 1988. In mid-1990 the two countries had still not negotiated on a peace treaty. The foriegn ministers of both …show more content…

They oviously did not find any weapons of mass destruction. Much of the intelligence used to justify the war subsequently was criticized as faulty by U.S. and British investigative bodies. Saddam Hussein was captured in Dec 2003. In 2004 he was sent to Iraq where he was tried and convicted for his crimes against humanity, he was put to death in 2006. In August 2010, US combat operations in Iraq ended, the last US soldiers who stayed behind to supply support and training for the newly born leadership were withdrawn in Dec 2011.
Saddam Hussein was a ruthless and murderous dictator, but almost certainly the best approach would have been to continue with plans of containing his effect with effective sanctions and no fly zones. This would have prevented the further rise of both Iran and Iraq. it would have protected oil supplies, it would have been legal, and it would have allowed the West to remain worry free and smilling.
