Introduction For two days, on the 14th and 15th of April, a field excursion to Hastings Point, New South Wales was conducted. At Hastings Point, topography, abiotic factors and organism distribution were measured and recorded, with the aim of drawing links between the abiotic factors of two ecosystems (rocky shore and sand dunes), the organisms which live in them, and the adaptations they have developed to cope with these conditions. Within these two ecosystems, multiple zones were identified and recorded, and this report also aims to identify the factors and organisms associated with each zone. Lastly, using data and observations from the past, predictions for the future of the rock pool ecosystem were made.
However, a rotation curve of a rigid body must have a body where the angular speed is the same. As a result, this lab will help me understand how individual stars move in a galaxy spiral. This lab will also help me understand why the stars speed in the inner part is different from the outer part of the galaxy. Procedure
Did you know that Annie Cannon was able to classify around a thousand stars a day during the peak of her career? This paper will be focusing on the life, career, and legacy of Annie Jump Cannon. Annie Jump Cannon was hired by Edward Pickering, and she worked as “Pickering’s assistant at the Harvard College Observatory” (1). After that, she was credited with coming up with an easy system that divided the stars into seven spectral classes. The spectral classes were as follows: O, B, A, F, G, K, M. Annie Jump Cannon’s career ended after forty years, but her work paved the way for women in the scientific community and continues to inspire fellow female scientists.
The author wants the readers to understand that for a family to be a perfect family like we see in love stories it must have similar ideas, thus he uses stars to show wholeness in the family. Throughout the story, Hrbek uses perspective
The Asteroidea class, also known as the sea stars, has many common characteristics. Firstly, all sea stars have flat, star-shaped bodies as well as a central disc with radiating arms/rays protruding out. Typically, seastars has five arms but certain species can have up to fifty arms! The size of the sea stars is not consistent through the different species therefore varies from one centimeter to three feet. The skeletal system is a key aspect for the survival of a sea stars.
1. What was your theoretical yield and your percent yield? Theoretical yield: 3.9151 g Percent yield: 79.30% 2. An accurate percent yield must be below 100% Why?
Discussion Week one- During the first week of this experiment we used a Spectronic 20 to measure the light absorbance and the percent of light transmitted. A Spectronic 20 is a machine that measures the amount of light that passes through the solution (Lewiston, 2014). For week one the goal of the experiment was to find the analytical for KMnO4.
Introduction Physarum is a yellow colored single celled organism that holds a large amount of nuclei and can release tubes while it finds food (Costello, 2013). The physarum also enjoys cool damp areas that are wet where it feasts food such as dead matter, bacteria, and oat flakes (Miranda, 2013). Physarum’s growth can be affected by exposure to mold, light, and weather inclements. The physarum reacts to different types of stimuli which can also affect its growth. The physarum can be affected by sound, light, and electrical activity because of when it forages, it releases electrical activity that produces its reactions (Miranda, 2011).
As the data suggests (assuming no errors were made during the measurement process), the angular separation between Jupiter and Spica grew slowly from 10 degrees to 11 degrees (approximate numbers), then shrank back down to 10 degrees towards the end of the semester. However, the angular separation between Jupiter and Arcturus seems to increase over the course of the summer and did not make a return (at least dramatic enough to be noticed like Jupiter and Spica) to its original separation (consulting the Starry Night software after the experiment confirms that the angular separation between Jupiter and Arcturus was indeed slowly decreases). Question 12: Over the course of the summer, Jupiter was getting dimmer. This can be attributed to the
When the red dots gather together in the green ring it will continue to grow when more red dots collide with it and when it gets to a certain size the user will notice that it would form a digital blob. Starlogo is a tool for thinking about bottom-up systems and of course, this was designed to helps kids and grownups create phenomenon they might observe in the real world. The core of StarLogo is for it to optimize modeling for emergent systems. “Local
(BS-1) Whenever Najmah and Nusrat miss their lost loved ones, they look at the stars and console themselves that their loved ones are safe and secure somewhere in the star studded universe. (BS-2) As they are faced with hardships throughout their lives and persevere to come out of them, the sky and the stars reflect their struggles in the way the sky is filled with darkness (symbolizing despair) and then filled with brilliant light from the stars (symbolizing hope). (BS-3)
John Dewey defines public as “ all those who are affected by the indirect consequences of transactions to such an extent that it is deemed necessary to have those consequences systematically cared for.” Parkinson’s concept of private is “ A sphere of activity that’s is the locus of initiative in which individuals make autonomous decisions.” Today public spaces have become severely privatized. The formation of controlled domains has lead to the sanitization of public spaces. There is a very strict definition between the formal and the informal sector, which therefor leads to citizenship being marginalized economically socially and politically.
It’s color is never the same because the surface temperature changes “depending on the type of fusion reaction fuelling the star at the time”(“Stars Great and Small”, n.d.). As a star nears the end of its life, it will get more and more red or orange because its temperature is decreasing. Not only do stars change color because they are dying, but also because of absorption lines. These “lines are created when light from something hot like a star passes through a cooler gas, cancelling out the emission lines the chemicals in the gas would normally create”(Gary, S, 2010). Absorptions lines are what make stars have dark streaks in them and causes them to look uneven.
Properties of Substances Express Lab 1)The purpose of this lab was to compare the physical properties of different types of solids and how the properties of solids are determined by their intermolecular forces and their intramolecular bonds. Then we were to classify each type of solid as either ionic, metallic, non-polar molecular, polar molecular, or network. Paraffin wax classified as a non-polar molecular, Silicon dioxide was classifies as a network, Sodium chloride was classified as ionic, Sucrose was classified as polar molecular and Tin was classified as metallic. (2)The intermolecular forces that are present in Paraffin wax are dispersion forces, because it is non-polar and carries a negative charge. Followed by Sucrose that has
Jaspreet Singh Professor Paratore Biology 1 November 1, 2014 Spectrophotometry Identifying Solutes and Determining Their Concentration Statement of the Exercise or of the Problem The purpose of the lab experiment was to attain the following objectives: • Learning to Operate the Spectrophotometer • Construct absorption spectra for cobalt chloride and chlorophyll. Hypothesis If greater and higher concentrations of cobalt chloride are added to each solution then greater amounts of light would be absorbed by each solution. Thus a liner relationship will result in which the absorbance of a substance would be proportional to its concentration, which will be depicted, in a linear graph.
