In the next few minutes I will show you the problems that educators and children, in the public school system, face because of the traditional, but out-dated calendar. I will then introduce you to some of the aspects of year-round school and show you how it is a better alternative than the current nine month calendar. There are, as I see it, 4 key issues that illustrate why the nine-month calendar is a problem. First, it is a 100-year-old system that was implemented to accommodate an agrarian society.
Traditional school schedules have kids in school from late summer until late spring, the year-round schedule has kids in school all year but the difference is there are longer breaks in the year-round schedule. Changing to a four day school week can give additional benefits to all parties involved including students, teachers, and the school settings. If a four-day school week was implemented in American school districts, the performance plus achievement for students will increase along with a higher attendance.
Four-day school weeks have the capability to change student lives. Every school should invest in the four-day school week plan. Implementing this routine would allow teachers more time to teach and give students the option to do their homework during class, in turn creating student success. All of these factors would help to enhance student and faculty life, while promoting success in the classroom. Having a school system run on a four-day rotation would increase their success by offering more opportunities for lesson and work time.
Critics of the shortened school week point to the fact that children who are at risk, especially those having learning difficulties may not be able to get the most out of the new program. As it might seem, 4-day school weeks would work best for kids who are self-motivated and would not serve the needs of those who do not learn in the same manner. This means a lessened focus, which can cause grades to drop. It also means that there is a higher cost for parents. Though schoold districts can save money with four day school weeks, it is the other way around for many parents.

That shows just by shorting the hours and days students go to school makes a big impact in the amount of money being saved. To add on to why schools should be shorter is the amount of sleep students get a day.
