Would America be the same today if they never declared war on Mexico? Was declaring was worth the money and lives lost? Thirteen thousand U.S. soldiers and twenty five thousand Mexican soldiers died as a result of the war. Most soldiers suffered a slow death from diseases such as yellow fever. No amount of money or territory will ever make up for the lost lives of soldiers, and the loss that their families must face and cope with. I believe America’s declaration of war on Mexico was a poor choice because although, there were benefits like gaining new land such as California, Texas, and New Mexico, it will strain any future relations with Mexico, money and supplies were wasted, tensions will rise, and most importantly, many lives were lost
