When high school students have to make a choice about which university to attend, many colleges may come to mind. Some students prefer to attend a college in their home state. One university Texas A&M attracts thousands of students a year. Because of its rich history, traditions, and how it has evolved throughout the years, Texas A&M will be the only choice to consider for many students.
Connor Zuege Shawn Sullivan/Kyle Hickey 5/3/17 ~Why I Want To Be a Drum Major~ There are many reasons that I personally would like to be a Drum Major for the Starkville High School Marching Band. Among these reasons is the desire to further my understanding of music, and how it works throughout all the instruments of the band. I would like to also further my understanding of what it means to be a leader with the help and guidance of upper class Drum Majors, and with the help of the Starkville High School Band staff. Some more reasons why I would like to be a Drum Major is to help the Starkville High School Bands in our journey in the upcoming year, and to help our band receive all superior scores once again.
What one person does can affect the whole band, if they move at the wrong time or their horn is towards the
Welcome to Marching Band. “Marching band is for dorks and nerds that have nothing to do”, I used to think to myself. After all, the media has portrayed band students to be this way. How could I not think that band kids had no social life and were all geeky! It was a flaw of mine to believe the stereotypes, but after my friend constantly insisted in me trying out for the color guard, I could not say no.
Think about it, a person who is in a band class, or any musical class for that matter, usually has high grades and is good at
Finally, marching band is physically exerting not only from the activity but also due to the conditions that a show is performed under these can make the performance even more challenging. For all of these reasons, marching band should be considered a
When I examine my goals for the future, it is hard not to see Texas A&M as a chapter in my journey towards reaching them. I do not aspire to become president or an astronaut. But I do desire a career path that sets myself into a position allowing me to assist society, while being financially suitable to provide for a family in the future. The agricultural community is a field that has just that. Accommodating the infrastructure of our nation seems appropriate for my goals.
Marching Band is a complex activity that many people are incapable of handling. It requires mental and physical output like no other sport. To be able to play an instrument while keeping correct marching techniques is a difficult task. Over time it becomes easier because the outdoor practices a person must endure are two and a half hours long. The marchers must practice for halftime shows, parades, and competitions to earn a record.
In order to participate in the marching band, your grades have to be good and you can’t get in trouble. When I joined marching band, I strived to be better than what I was. I picked my grades up and I didn’t get into trouble. That was five years ago now, I am color guard captain now and I couldn’t imagine my life without color guard.
So what is stopping schools and associations from considering it one? Society and the cheer community should do anything in their power to get people to realize that cheerleading is a
Naturally all marching band sections are going to be arrogant and feel that they are the best. This arrogance at times is a good thing, because it is great to feel proud of the section that you are in, but at other times it is taken to far which leads to my point of the discrimination present. The two main cases of section discrimination I have witnessed while in the Sax section were against the Flutes and the Trombones. My freshman year was the year that we felt that we were not only the best section but the flutes were garbage and not capable of doing anything right. That mentality does not allow for a very good relationship between sections.
It sometimes takes up a lot of time, but I still manage to balance the time between my academics and band
Using your brain isn’t unfair. Even though using your brain may make some people jealous, that is no reason to send a sharp noise and risk them having permanent damage to their ears or brain. Some people are smarter than others and that is just how the world works. No one can be stronger than anyone either. The author reveals, “It was easy to see that she was the strongest and most graceful of all the dancers for her handicaps were as big
On top of that, the so-called benefits of music only take place if you’re especially interested in music. If you’re not, music classes can actually cause more harm than good. Some may argue that there are no disadvantages to musical education, but that’s a very misguided view to take. Everything has disadvantages, and this is no exception. In a survey taken by New York Times, a high school student named Jacob responded: “I was forced, against my will, to partake in fine arts programs throughout the time I was in elementary school…
