Connor Zuege Shawn Sullivan/Kyle Hickey 5/3/17 ~Why I Want To Be a Drum Major~ There are many reasons that I personally would like to be a Drum Major for the Starkville High School Marching Band. Among these reasons is the desire to further my understanding of music, and how it works throughout all the instruments of the band. I would like to also further my understanding of what it means to be a leader with the help and guidance of upper class Drum Majors, and with the help of the Starkville High School Band staff. The first leadership role I would like to mention is my role as an assistant teacher/helper during the summer at our local Boys and Girls Club. The next leadership role I would like to mention is my role as a VBS teacher at my church in Starkville, Ms. I would like to be able to acquire more leadership roles and such in the future to further my leadership horizon. ~What Being a Leader Means to Me~ There are some key things that make a leader a leader to me. The first one is not panicking in the presence of mistake or failure. The second thing is a strong sense of courage and willingness to lead with pride. The third thing is the ability to listen to suggestions and adapt accordingly. The fourth and last thing that I would like to mention is a sense of purpose in what they do and why they do it. ~Reasons for being a Drum Major~ I mentioned some reasons earlier why I personally would like to be a Drum Major.
