Calling yourself a leader is easier said than done as leadership is not about being boastful or overbearing, but the happy medium between the two. Leaders should be able to recognize the moment in which one (a leader) is needed, and then take control of the situation to set an example for others; however, this should not be done disdainfully. The best leaders are those who are role models, looked up to, and inspirations for others. Sometimes leaders will leave an impression on others, whether it be from something they said or did. I hope to leave a long-lasting impression on my peers as a leader in the classroom. In addition, leaders are trusted, respected, and dependable. What scholarship is not is taking the easy way out of things, such as when a teacher assigns a project that has several options to choose from and picking the one that sounds like the easiest or requires the least amount of work. Scholarship is additionally not enrolling in the classes with the teacher who everyone knows lets students slack off. While the previously mentioned are both examples of ways to go unscholarly through school, there are different courses of action one can take in school that will directly and positively impact one’s scholarship. Say, for example, school is a path and success is the reward at the end, but there are multiple barriers along the path that need to be overcome in order to get to success. Rather than turning around and going back the way I came when I hit a roadblock, an option which some would preferably choose instead, I figure out different approaches to maneuver around the barricade. If I do not understand something discussed in class, I use my own time outside of class to do further research on the subject or ask questions. Furthermore, ambition is one of my stronger characteristics that has helped me get to the point where I am at currently in my education. Only a handful of sophomores, myself included, chose to take AP United States History even though it is common knowledge it requires lots of effort and work so that one will be able to achieve a passing grade. It is true that AP U.S. History is not the easiest class to take, but I knew what I was getting into when I enrolled in it, and I was not looking for an easy class. I work diligently to keep my grade up in AP U.S. History by turning in only carefully written essays, retaking tests as needed, as well as reading and completing notes for each chapter we cover. My aspirations have helped me keep an A in the class, raising my GPA to a 4.048 as I have kept my grades up in
