In her article, “Teach Them Spanish Early, Too,” Carlene Carmichael questions why young Californians are not being taught a basic understanding of both the English and the Spanish language. Carmichael contends that more job opportunities are available to bilingual applicants. She suggest that children could be taught both languages together from a young age. Carmichael pities the many Americans who are barred from employment at bilingual businesses because of this disadvantage and she wonders if anyone else feels the same. Carmichael’s suggestion to offer Spanish curriculum to young children and teach both English and Spanish at the same time makes a lot of sense; After all, California does recognize both English and Spanish as official
The article "The Struggle to be an American Girl" by Elizabeth Wong it is about a Chinese girl who did not want to learn or speak her first language and chose just to speak English. However, being bilingual has benefits like communication, jobs opportunities, etc. I chose to be bilingual for two reasons. the first reason is communication. Communication is important and if we know more than one language, it is possible to communicate with more than one group of people.
Relation In the book Glass Castle, by Jeannette Walls, it was never said in the writing that the mother had a type of mental illness. Though throughout this book it was never said in writing that she has mental illness like depression, but it was hinted at. She was showing symptoms of depression throughout the story, as her own and her family's life and way living got worse she seemed to care less and spend more time in bed, not wanting to get out as if she was physically . Her kids all said this was her mother just being selfish and lazy.

Abstract The purpose of this study was to compare two Latino families and their children on how parental instruction affects communication using Augmentative and Alternative communication (AAC) during reading. The research’s design was used a single-subject, multiple baseline approach. The participants were two Latino families with a child at least three years of age who presented a motor speech impartment. Each family was given a book to use through out the study, which they would read to their children like any other child’s book. With the books the families were also given different communication displays with individual symbols and each child had their usual AAC system.
Growing up learning two languages may sometimes be difficult but it will benefit the person learning in many ways. Not only will learning two languages help in getting higher paying jobs, but it will give a better view of both cultures and their history. I agree with Alarid’s statement that Mexican Americans in the United States should learn both English and Spanish. Alarid shares his view on why it is important to learn English and Spanish. Being bilingual is only a way we can prosper in our society by being able to have a better understanding in communicating with our peers.
Being bilingual has helped me in so many ways in my job and also in my youth group. The fact that I know two languages is incredible. Spanish being part of who I am and English because it is an essential language to know. In my job currently I have many customers that speak really little English and knowing Spanish helped them feel more comfortable. It makes them feel welcomed to come back and that makes me really happy to know that I can make someone else feel better.
According to Jarmel and Schneider (2010), by the year 2025, one-third of students attending public schools will not know English when they start Kindergarten. How will schools adapt to this? Will teachers and/or students be limited on what they can teach/learn throughout the school year because of time restraints? In a documentary Speaking in Tongues, directed by Jarmel & Schneider (2010), four students who range from Kindergarten to eighth grade, showcase their experiences about attending public school around the San Francisco area to become bilingual. The four students Durrell, Jason, Julian, and Kelly are taught in English and also in a second language such as Mandarin, Spanish, Chinese, and Cantonese.
The more language knowledge significantly helps towards your career as you know. Bilinguals have the privilege of get their information from a wider variety of resources. Also, it has great educational benefit to kids. Many studies suggest that bilingual children tend to have a higher concentration and are better at working through distraction while doing their school work. Research has shown that bilinguals score higher on average on tests involving creative thinking or problem solving.
My hypothesis is that being bilingual makes you a better student than a non bilingual student. The believe that knowing two languages was not good for children because it made them confuse. It’s been proven that this is wrong because it actually makes them concentrate better in school. The growth of children who are bilingual has increased in the years 2014-2015 to estimated 4.6 million in public schools. Furthermore, the study conducted was to show how know to languages helps school performance.
The development of literacy and language is a continual progress within a person. This development is one that starts from the moment a child is born (Hurst and Joseph, 2000). This development is promoted within the home environment and is extended within the early years’ classroom domain. Literacy and language development is comprised of four strands, which are listening, speaking, reading & writing. These four factors are in constant interaction together and are constantly developing within the person (Saffran, Senghas and Trueswell, 2001).
There are many limitations and difficulties to attain accurate results on the differences of bilinguals and monolinguals, however, researchers and educators are positive about the benefits of being bilingual or multilingual. When people are confronted in a situation and they have to provide answer for particular question then bilingualism enable individual to find the appropriate word from two different languages thus it help them to provide best answers. Why taking a second language can be helpful Learning a second language has many lifelong beneficial other than just understanding the language itself, mainly if learned at a young age. Learning a second language can be done more efficiently as a young kid, and can open up many doors for later in life while being mentally advanced. When it comes to learning a second language, the younger you start the easier you will begin to learn your second language. Younger brains learn much easier than older brains because the brain is designed for language learning to take place between birth and adolescence (the period following the onset of puberty during which a young person develops from a child into an adult).
