he novel A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is about a family in Brooklyn during the 1960s. Katie and Johnny Nolan’s family suffers from the harsh treatment and views from others due to their low social and economic status. Their children, Francie and Neely, notice but don’t fully understand why they are treated as lower class citizens. Soon both were to start school. However, in order to start school, both need to receive the proper vaccinations.
As Americans, we are supposed to be willing to widely and attentively consider other cultures traditions, practices, and styles of life. I personally don’t presume in this line from the American anthem “the land of the free and the home of the brave. A substantial amount of Americans’ are chauvinist’s, or just simply don’t take other cultures into consideration. This is why Fan Shen chooses to be his Chinese cultured, self while writing in America. There are many differences in American and Chinese writing.
Prior to the reconstruction, the pre-existing wall from the Qin dynasty was outdated and no longer suited as a defensive wall in its condition. Consequently, this represented a time period in which China had no defense system, and demonstrated the danger that the nomadic tribes were to the Chinese. Specifically, Han dynasty historian Sima Qian states that the wall was built “so that the barbarians no longer ventured to come south to pasture their horses and their men dared not take up their bows to vent their hatred.” The nomadic tribes, especially the Xiongnu, were still in massive conflict with the Han dynasty, and the danger that the Xiongnu posed to the Chinese only grew.
What can we learn about Confucianism from this excerpt? Master wants people to follow the rules. Master has three good ideas sufficiency of food, sufficiency of military equipment, and the confidence of the people in their ruler. Master says that military equipment is the most important. The goverment will not do anything if their is no order.
Confucianism thought that a ruler should be like a father by setting good examples for the people of China. He also thought that a ruler should be honest, good, and wise in order for the people to follow him. “But he said the best way to rule was through an honorable government and right relationships”
Family by Pa Chin is a captivating novel that describes what life in China was like in the twentieth century. Confucianism, a big religion in China at the time, was heavily focused on filial piety. Filial piety is the relationship of obedience, in which the elders are to be respected by the younger generation (Wu, lecture notes, 2015). This religion was one of the main structures on how the society was ran. Chin represents how the younger generation was upset with how the old traditions of the Confucian system were ran and that they were ready to change it.
The first source directly describes the story of the Qin Dynasty, and its subsequent rise from a group of lowly soldiers in the far-west of the old Zhou Kingdom to its unification of all the Chinese States to become the very first of the Chinese Empires. The mastermind of this unification was Ying Zheng, who would later give himself the title Qin Shi Huang-Di which translates to, “First Sovereign Emperor of Qin.” Ying Zheng, and his short-lived dynasty, would create the foundation of all Chinese administration and government structure for the next two-thousand years. This base included: the abolishment of the feudal system, centralization of state powers, a rigid system of laws, standardization of the writing system, and the creation of provinces
The authors purpose is to show that Confucius is the a real teaching in China while Buddhism was not and just an idea. Finally, many people did not believe that Buddha had any affiliation with China and the dynasties. Buddha did not speak Chinese nor wear Chinese cultural clothes and he came from India which leads many scholars to believe he did not have an effect. For example, “...to say that Buddha is no more than a cult… did not exist here in ancient time.(Document 4)” The point of view of the author is against Buddhism and does not believe that Buddhism had any correlation with China.
Some reactions were positive while others were negative. When Buddhism was first on the uprise in China, Confucian scholars quickly rejected because they saw Buddhism as being detrimental to the Chinese society since they saw some Buddhist practices as being evil and contravenes some of their Confucian principles as seen in Han Yu's ‘Memorial on Buddhism" (Doc 4). The Confucian Scholars saw Buddha as being "a being a man of the barbarians [basically a barbarian] who did not speak Chinese and who wore clothes of a different fashion". Also, with the Confucian Scholar's perception of Buddhism, they believed that some of the Buddhist practices like the mutilation of flesh being offered to the Buddha must not be allowed to stand. Confucian scholars also didn't appreciate how Buddhist teachings didn't mention anything about China's ancient kings and they also don't like the Buddha's way of dressing since it was against China's laws.
During the teenage years, many think that they know everything and no one else is correct. In the poem “Our Son Swears He Has 102 Gallons of Water in His Body,” by Naomi Shihab Nye, the speaker tells about how a boy thinks his opinion is correct and the opinions of his parents are wrong. The boy, because he believed his answer was correct, didn’t have a close connection to his parents. Being reassured of his answer by the teacher, the boy disregarded his parent’s thoughts. He completely does not believe that his parent’s answer is acceptable.

Many of his teachings implemented filial piety, or in a broader sense, the relationships between man and society. Confucius often examines the duty of one man being ruled by a government. Yet, he focuses on a balance between individuals and government, suggesting that they maintain a symbiotic relationship. Confucius explores the role one plays in society, and vice versa.
Becoming a parent is a task that cannot be taken lightly. It is a task filled with frustration, responsibilities and dedication, but is also filled with joy and satisfaction. From children learning how to behave to them going out with friends, rules, standards and expectations are set mostly by their parents. Parents make most of their children’s decision in the first couple of years from behalf from what they eat for breakfast from setting their curfew as they get older. As children began grow, they began to make their own choices and learn to deal with the consequence of their mistakes.
