Deficit spending can be considered to be a bad thing because if the government is spending more than their revenues are bringing in then they are creating a higher debt ratio. Even if the government borrows the money to increase the deficit spending to generate more consumer spending the downside to the excess borrowing is the increase of interest rates in America. The more that our government spends to expand the deficit to create more jobs and more consumer spending also creates a higher debt.
