Rogers, C. (2012). Carl Rogers on Empathy. [online] YouTube. A. Background:
Have you ever been hopeful for something that exceeds what you already have? You would do anything to make that one thing in your life better. Some people are like that and do whatever they can do to make it happen and some people simply just hope for it to happen there whole life. You will never understand why other people hope for what they are hopeful for. It’s like, always wanting more than you have and you have to do something big about it to make the littlest thing happen.
They are obsessed with the thought of everything is going to be fine in the end. This is not always the case, which people in everyday life should start to understand. Life is not a fairy tale that is always going to end up with everything going in a positive direction. Therefore, in life people ignore the aspect of situations getting worse, and only pay attention to the illusions they create to avoid it.
Intellectual empathy is an awareness of the need to see the reasons why someone did something and understand them. There are a few people throughout the novel that a person can feel empathetic towards. Many, if not all, feel empathy toward Lakshmi but there are other characters as well. While feeling empathetic to Lakshmi, people could also relate to her stepfather, Shilpa, and Monica.
Having a choice or a say in an important matter is something most people treasure; the fact that we have control over our future. To other, these decisions can be more burdensome than liberating. They can cause one great stress and anxiety if one sees himself unfit to make that weighing decision. Overly-anxious people prefer to give up this decision-making power to another trusted person. The patients Ken Kesey describes in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest are content giving up this privilege that everyone is entitled to, until Randle McMurphy makes them aware of what they’re missing out on.
The emotions of a person can trigger him or her into being a responsible human being by assisting
Having a goal in mind makes living life less of a burden for Earthseed’s followers, as they have a reason to continue pushing forward and striving for a better life for themselves and others in a cold and unforgiving world that seems
Ambition Helen Keller once said “character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.” People inspired by ambition can accomplish great things. However, when tempted by their desires, people can destroy themselves as well.
Emotions are what propel you forward to reach your goal, but what also stop you from breaking your limits. They are what weigh into our decisions and help lead us to the choices we forever live with. Not only can they determine what we do, but also when and how we do it. At times they are stronger than others, pulling us forward or throwing us back as if we have absolutely no control. Just like in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the entire lives of two teenagers led by the emotions that they couldn’t ignore.
However, if one is highly emotive, they may not be able to separate the emotion from the data they perceive,
Imagine going through the same day over and over again for the rest of your life. From waking up doing the same routines every day without taking a risk for a slight change. Some individuals on the other hand will yearn for a slight change in their everyday life, no matter what the situation might be. One who goes through the same conditions over and over again will someday crave a change.
According to the data in 2013, five top countries that have the largest hydropower capacity, which are China, Brazil, United States, Canada, and Russia, occupied over half of hydropower global capacity (Ren21). China takes 26%, Brazil takes 8.6%, United States takes 7.8%, Canada takes 7.6%, Russia 4.7%, and ‘rest of country’ takes 45.4% of the global hydropower capacity. As annual global capacity reaches 1000GW, China reaches 260GW by itself, while Brazil generates 86GW. Hydropower electricity generated from China is greater than 3times of Brazil’s.
This was a compelling contrast to those who had absolutely no control over their emotions with PLC. Wanucha uses acting as an example of people being able to control their emotions her first example was an actress names Sheila Dona, she played Rizzo in the infamous production Grease. This was Dona’s first time ever attempting to cry on stage for a role. Sheila said “I knew I wanted to cry on a specific scene” therefore she taught herself to tap into an emotional place to cry on cue. She used a process called Method Acting to tap into the pathways of her brain responsible for generating tears.
We all have different ways of perceiving and making sense of the world around us. What an individual considers a golden opportunity another considers a threat. Perception is the process of receiving information about and making sense of the world around us (McShane et al., 2010: 88). Perception crafts our understanding of the world around us and allows us to act within our environment. Perception isn’t a notion a manager or team leader can directly access or fix in others.
This survival brain (called the lizard brain by some psychologists) controls us far more than we think. And if we don’t keep it in check, we always do things that sabotage our own plans with a relationship, or even work, family, our bodies and our health. A good and quick example of how this lizard brain takes hold of us more than we think is people who are trying to lose weight. They might do a little bit of exercise or go on some crazy diet, but then somehow justify to themselves – “ok just one more doughnut”.
