If we switch over to all electric engines, the gas industry will have a drastic decline in business and could possibly go out of business. Gas stations make it easy to just fill up and go more miles, while electric needs time to fill up, and also needs special electric service requirements of 220 volt plugs sometimes and higher amperages to charge the vehicle. Gas stations also provide a place to buy food for the road. I believe that gasoline engines overpower electric for many reasons, mostly because electric is les reliable than
Coal mining in the U.S. provides many jobs and is the backbone of many incomes. Longwall coal mining is one form of underground coal mining. In fact, it is the most productive form, yet the safest. The machine used is highly powerful and efficient. Pros for this type of mining are followed by cons as well.
The main way that oil and natural gas reserves are acquired are through the means of Fracking. Also known as hydrofracking, this method utilizes a drill that drills down thousands of feet underground, which is then flushed with millions of gallons of water along with additive chemicals at high pressures to break the rocks sheltering the reserves. This method of attainment is quite risky as it comes with many unfavorable consequences that are quite unbeneficial. Like fossil fuel plants, fracking also releases greenhouse gasses like methane(Potential Health and Environmental Effects of Hydrofracking in the Williston Basin, Montana), which is worse than carbon dioxide and causes air pollution. Alongside that, pollutants like Benzene and Xylene also leak out during the fracking process, which is known to cause serious health conditions and even death in some cases due to the long exposure to the pollutants(Potential Health and
Fossil Fuels have been used as a fuel since the start of the Industrial Revolution. In 1790 the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere increased because of this. These gases will remain there for over hundreds of years. I will take centuries for the natural processes to bring down the levels of the green house gases to a normal level. Because of this their warming influence will remain on our Earth for the coming Century
Gasoline and diesel require a replacement because of these reasons and as previously mentioned Energy Independence. With all these factors against Gasoline it becomes clear that it needs to be replaced, but with what? Alternative fuels? That is the obvious answer and being of a broad definition it is also the right answer if they're implemented properly. Think for a moment about Tape Players, or VCRs, technology was created and allowed to compete head-to-head with this older medium.
Owing to the large amounts of pollution these fossil fuels make each year, humanity has been looking for possible solutions and replacement energy sources. Fortunately, there are many other viable options, such as hydropower and solar power, but each one has its own pros and cons that prevent it from fully replacing fossil fuels. Fossil fuels will only last humanity for a while longer, and as a result, humanity should find alternative fuel sources to replace harmful fossil
We need to fund these projects that show great promise to ensure that we gain security in our energy goals. We need to think on a larger scale: we won’t have endless fossil fuels to support our energy needs for much longer. There is a finite amount of resources we can use to turn them into usable energy. Alternative energy isn’t limited by that, unless the sun implodes and the earth ceases to have an atmosphere.
We have the power to make energy based products and reduce the amount of fossil fuels being used. China, for example, used 80% of it electricity from coal. When China realized its problem and seeing smog all around, they took matters into their own hands and decreased coal burning by 3%.
There is a quote by President Barack Obama saying, “To truly transform our economy, protect our security, and save our planet from the ravages of climate change, we need to ultimately make clean, renewable energy the profitable kind of energy,” (“151 Inspiring Environmental Quotes”). He believes as many due that nonrenewable resources are harmful to all aspects of life. The energy we use now is harmful to our planet, to humans, and to animals. Scientists are taking steps to making the world a better place. They found sources that replenished naturally in a short amount of time and are less destructive in all aspects.
Angel Hsu A block Solar Energy 12/22/2015 “Because we are now running out of gas and oil, we must prepare quickly for a third change, to strict conservation and to the use of coal and permanent renewable energy resources, like solar power. ”(Jimmy Carter, televised speech,1977) Just like what he said, we should develop other energy than fossil fuel because we will run out of it some days and fossil fuels are the main reason of global climate change.
It is commonly known throughout human history that the energy used is burned from coal which creates biomass. During the Industrial Revolution, coal was an essential need to everyone, hence the discovery of oil as a substitute. Yet, the mass formation from the unearthing of oil causes more damage than benefits for the planet. Humanity had never seen a more compatible source in which came a higher demand for oil. As the public has urged to generate more oil, scientists theorized that fossil fuels will eventually run out, making way for a renewable energy route in the future (Mason).
Imagine a world where we have used up all of our nonrenewable resources and no longer have gas to power our cars, no coal to make energy, and no natural gas to power you household items. Well it might not be too hard to imagine, because it is predicted that in less than 75 years we will use up all of our natural gas, oil, and coal deposits. This is just one of many reasons that the government needs to put more funding into green energy. They not only need funding to find new sources of renewable energy but they also need to invest more in products that produce clean energy like solar panels, windmills, and turbines in dams. Climate change has been a center of attention for many years now, however it seems that very few changes have been made to slow or stop it.
Should we pursue alternate energy sources? I feel that we should pursue alternate energy sources. It would stop pollution and global warming from happening so sudden, as we have it currently in our generation. Using renewable energy means that we will never run out of the energy we need.
Opinion- My opinion is that renewable energy should replace fossil fuels because fossil fuels has damaged the environment causing many problems (e.g. Climate Change). I believe that if we decrease the usage of fossil fuels then there might be a way in which the environment could slightly recover from the damages made. Rising temperatures are changing weather and vegetation patterns across the globe
this damage will have devastating consequences for future human generations all other life of earth yet we continue to use fossil fuels. This is for a few reasons, firstly we are so reliant of them that it will be impossible to completely change to renewables overnight . fossil fuels are still the cheapest form of energy available so why would individual people and business chose otherwise to put money into renewable research,, well governments around world have realised the danger of global warming and they know an overnight switch is impossible so the have implemented taxes on fossil fuels and inefficient use of them and put this money into renewable energy research, also provided grants and tax breaks for people and business that are switching to renewables. these actions will slowly make renewable energy more cost effective and appealing to everyone and will move the world away from fossil fuels and towards renewable green energy sources. Similarly with stem cell research i think the potential medical benefits of mastering stem cell therapies is just too big.
