Rome started expanding with its eyes first set on Sicily unfortunately it was loyal to Carthage. This first clash seemed an inevitable failure for Rome, however they triumphed. This set the stage for future expansion, Rome’s thirst for trade goods was quite healthy after all they had to maintain their population
The map of Foreign Invasions of the Roman Empire shows the territory of the Roman Empire and how many different people were migrating near Rome, some even reaching the city itself. All of these migrations of people led to Rome being invaded often, as everyone wanted a piece of Rome’s riches. (Doc C) This evidence means that Rome suffered greatly from the migrations of people around them. The constant invasions and attacks Rome had to defend itself against contributed to their fall.
Many other civilizations thought that rome's growing power would become a threat. But nobody really knew how big it could get in the future. Rome was built by a king that will always be remembered for founding one of the most powerful civilizations in all of human history. The founder of Rome was raised by a wolf, as well as a sheltered and his wife. Romulus founded the city named Rome on April 21, 753 BC and named it after himself.
In ancient history Romans have always been the dominant force that would build itself back up and strengthen into a major civilization for hundreds of years to come. Although, what a lot of people don’t know is how the Romans initially began or perceived to be created as a people that was born from mythological stories that tied into their own culture at the time. Titus Livius (Livy) was an historian that wrote many books on the history of Rome, but today we will only go through an English translation from 1919 of Livy’ first book. We will be discussing what happened (what was written down as the origin of Rome), some interesting points in the text, and analyze the way Livy wrote/structured his work. Let’s start with a summary of what the book is about.
Rome was a very unique place. It began long ago as a city in the center of Italy, on the Italian Peninsula. Soon enough, Rome grew into a kingdom. In Rome’s growth, there were many geographical advantages such as the Tiber River which provided trade and travel due to the ford, the mountain ranges that protected Rome from harsh weather and from attacks, and lastly the climate was very cool and rainy winters. Tarquin was the last ruler of Rome.
Rome started its expansion in the Latium, the region in which the city of Rome is located, and by 220 BC, they had colonised the whole actual Italian territory. By 140 BC, the actual Greek territory was theirs, and by 117 AD, the Roman Empire was at its territorial apogee, under the reign of the Emperor Trajan.
Located near many rivers and seas, lied the Roman Empire. “They chose to settle on the Tiber River, not only for the obvious reasons of farm land for irrigation and fertile land, but for the easy access to trade routes and get-aways during war. Trade was their only option of surviving and thriving on the lonely land. Given that they were the first to settle in the Mediterranean, the Romans had to find ways to make do with what they had.” quoted Mrs. Toler. Unfortunately in further research done by other historians, they suffered through extreme dry heat in summer, which slowed the process of a growing civilization.
The insights that can be found about early Roman culture from the story of Romulus and Remus is that early Roman culture was much like its founding. The Romans were a fierce nation and “Rome’s savagery was matched by its size, when the colosseum was built Rome was a city if a million people and growing” (The Rise of Rome). In the story of Romulus and Remus, Remus attacks his brother and is killed by him too. For Remus to attack his brother required savagery, and for Romulus to kill Remus also required this same type of savagery.
These depictions in art resemble later Roman culture, indicating a cultural exchange between the two civilizations (Meyers, 2012). In addition, Roman myths, such as the one about Romulus and Remus founding Rome, have similarities to Etruscan mythology, suggesting a common ancestry (Warren, 1970). Genetic and Anthropological
About 2,770 years ago, the city of Rome was founded by Romulus on the Palatine Hill after his brother Remus died due to an argument between the two brothers. Remus and Romulus were brothers who wanted to found a city to avenge their grandfather. The brothers could not agree on anything about their city, where it was going to be, what it was going to be called, so the two brothers decided to build two different cities. Remus mocked the small wall Romulus built to defend his city so out of spite, Romulus had his commander Fabius kill Remus.
How did Rome come from a scattered group of people to a huge empire and how did it have fall Body: Rome rose form a scattered group of people to a successful republic but how did they do it? well they began by overthrowing the Etruscan King The transition from the Etruscan monarchy to republic (510-509 BC) was not a easy change. In place of the King, the new Republic relied upon its Senate to oversee the government and the election of various officials, including two shared power Consuls. This transformation from monarchy to representative style government, headed by the elite social class, would prove to have troubles of its own.
Back when Rome was just a small village along the banks of the Tiber river, its geography gave it many advantages. One of the biggest of those is its location along a river. Because these were hundreds of years in B.C.E. people relied on rivers and ponds for drinking and bathing. However, rivers were much better than lakes
Rome’s story is of a group taking countless outside influences and through forging a collective identity from these external forces. According to the legend, the Roman Republic was founded as the elites ousted their last king from power. The removal of the monarchy paved the way for the patricians to build a new government. However, the original design of the constitution gave the patricians the lion’s share of influence.
Once there was no more place to expand to, and the decline of people, food, and soldiers lead to a disaster. This made Rome
